The breakdown

Minnesota Lottery already operates inside a clear set of brand guardrails. Adding a licensed film property brought it to a whole otha level.

Betty’s creative team came up with a “Sand Trap” concept that dropped a group of hikers from a Northwoods jungle straight into a convenience store, with the new scratch ticket at the center of the action. Through The Off-Roster, we paired the project with director Olivier Agostini, whose practical camera tricks, comedic instincts and agency-side experience fit both the idea and the client.

The brief

What the work had to do:

  • Keep Minnesota Lottery, not the movie franchise, at the center of the campaign.
  • Turn a Northwoods jungle and convenience store into one achievable shoot day.
  • Navigate licensor approvals and an aggressive post schedule without slowing delivery.

The bet

Shoot two highly stylized worlds in one day, without a company move. Olivier’s treatment moved both the jungle and convenience store onto the LED volume at ACME Stage in Minneapolis. Practical foreground builds, live animals and a working sand-trap rig kept the environments tactile, while the virtual production setup gave Olivier more time to work with the talent on performances.

The payoff

The main shoot also produced a deep bench of social material for the campaign. But the really cool part is that the trust built during production gave Betty and CR the confidence to turn around a separate livestream on roughly five days’ notice - extending the campaign without making it feel like a disconnected second effort.

“Our latest production with CR was 10/10. Innovative and efficient production approach, Top tier Director, and 5 star hospitality from every member of the crew. They put so much thought and care into maintaining brand guidelines and went above and beyond to please our clients.”

— Nate Wehrman, Lead Producer, Betty
